As some of you may already know I'm working on producing a 28mm army for the wolfen. Me and the sculptor would like to hear any of your opinions on the work we are doing. Here's a link where you can download some of the concepts sketches.

At the moment he's working on the first three figures which will be ordinary archers. Next up is the command group for the archers. AoA doesn't need standards and musicians but they look good and if we can get people wanting these for other systems that's great too.

I know I might have seemed a little sensitive over some of the rulebook debates and comments but don't be afraid to give harsh critiques if you feel it's needed. We may not do what you want but we are listening.

Some really nice work going on in there Zink.
I look forward to seeing work progress and develop.
It's a tough field to venture into after the standard set by Rackham in regard to the Wolfen race but the material you have here looks promising.

There's a couple of things in my favour. First off is the scale. Rachham's are big. Very nice minis but big. Secodly I think I can offer these at a fairly reasonable price because I don't have a lot of overhead. It's not a hugely expensive project for me and my main concern is to cover the costs more than getting rich off of it. My theory of life, aim low and you're rarely disappointed Smile

Good point about the size.
Metal prices have gone ridiculous so making them closer to the 25-28mm scale will do your bottom line a world of favours.

I love the archers, especially the pose on the female one. The weapons are a bit elvenish (LOTR) for me, that probably wouldn't stop me from picking some of these up (I can always swap something out Smile )

I am really looking forward to seeing this line.

some verry nice drawings there mate
i reckon there would be a market for 25/8mm wolf figures , not just for a.o.a
and when i say figures, i mean dynamic exciting figures like these drawings promise.
of course, the hogs would crush them no worries Wink

ps.
don't tell loki, consider the monies he spent on rackham wolves already heheh

Loki already knows about it. I knew he was in love with wolfen so he's one of the first people I told. I wanted his opinions on some things. I've had a couple of people say they were interested in using these for Warhammer beastmen if they turn out as good as the concepts.

Bluntfang, I can see the elvish connection but we used historical central Asian themes for our inspiration. Maybe that's where Jackson got his ideas? We want things to be sleek looking and built for speed. Rackham went with a more celtic feel to their wolfen and we were hoping to avoid too many similarities.

Yeah, I can almost see the kukri Smile. To be honest I wasn't much of a fan of the Wolven weapons and armor in the 15mm line either. I always imagined them as a lower tech race, maybe with obsidian bladed weapons and natural forms of armor (bones, carapaces, leftover bits from their dinner) . As I said, it won't stop me from picking up models, just isn't my first choice in interpretation (which hardly matters since I am not the one designing/sculpting them Wink ). Keep up the good work!

We had some discussions about that. At first I was thinking more low tech myself. But when Pete started sending me his concept sketches I fell in love with his ideas. In the end we decided to have them at a medieval nomad level. I'm going to work on expanding Thane's wolfen history later on to give some background reasons for why they are the way they are.

Looking good mate.

I am a huge fan of command groups. Sure there aren't rules for them in AoA but that doesn't mean there weren't any comand groups! For me they give the unit a frontage you can recognise.

I also like to idea of Wolfen, it's just been the price that has put me off getting any. If they are in the 28mm range then I can diffentately see them being used as beastmen for other armies. Figures that have more than one use is always a good selling point.

I want some of those Zink. They're coming on really well. I'll be keen to pick some up despite the rackham force i picked up. I can use the bigger ones as ogre size wolfen or as the base 4 army i'm already running.

Either way keep it up mate.
