It'll be interesting if it will be another round of turd polishing or some fundamental changes.

Definately polishing, but perhaps with a different brand of fibre pushing it through...

I'm voting for turdage.
4th to 7th editions have been cack, I remember all the hype surrounding 7th edition it was going to be the best thing since sliced bread... and then before it hit the shelves they were already writing errata for it. Rolling Eyes

Not that I will ever play WH again but we can live in hope they will bring into the 21st Century (or even the 20th)

Its the only business model that works though - turd polishing + cheese rehashing.

If you make the perfect rulebook, they'll be no way to hype up the next turdacious one.

Hmmm, I've skipped the last 2 editions of 40k and now 2 editions of Warhammer without a game played. Hard to believe. Seems like not long ago I was playing a game or two of each a week. Then I count the years. Crying or Very sad Nowadays I'm lucky to get in a game of AoA every month or so. Guess that's going for quality over quantity Razz

In terms of Warhammer, you haven't missed anything.

Oh yeah.

And according to rumors, armor saves are streamlined too!

You get to choose your normal save OR your special save, but don't get one after the other.

Such innovation!

Period.

Well, at the increasing rate GW is achieving, WHFB 9th will be released early 2012, so better learn all the new rules QUICK, before they are changed AGAIN.

Oh, and I heard that point costs will be LOWERED one more time, so you need to buy more models to play a 2000 pt game.

Why I'm not surprised?

Best wishes.

Seems unlikely, considering the points are in the army books not the BRB.

Mmmm...

All armies will get a NEW BOOK.

New rules, new miniatures, some units will be dropped, so you'll need to spend yet more money just to keep "official" your "already completed" army.

AFAIK, the new beastmen book already has the 8th ed. contemplated, and as usual, the most popular armies will get their revisions ASAP (i.e. Empire, O&G, HE).

But of course, I may be wrong, and maybe all books will still be compatible with the new edition... but really, don't count on it, as I have heard that WHFB is going back to PERCENT PROPORTION for organizing armies, and the common, rare and unique slots will be erased too.

But then, until july, all that are only rumors.

Best wishes.

they have been moving towards larger games ( more figures ) for a while now. re. Apocalyse, war of the ring, any number of white dwarf bat reps.
clearly having oodles of figures on the table is an idea that a.o.a has always been good at.
now with all the plastic sets, gw. are simply making it relatively easier to field huge armies. and sell more toys into the bargain as well.

so i expect the new ed. warhammer to follow the theme. more uber killy stuff , bigger explosions and thus more larger armies.
will it work ? or will it be a pain ?
we'll see

What can I say, they have made some improvements for sure, but...
I still can't abide the 'I go You Go' format.
It lacks the spontaneity and the swift pace of gameplay I get from AoA.

Don't get me started on the issue of hero hammer Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad ...
I can feel old wounds testing the scar tissue, ... must relax, take an aspirin,

Warhammer should move away from balance (which I think it totally failed to achieve, making stuff bland is not balance!) and try and create a game that is fun and wacky and competitive, with armies feeling 'special' and themed at the expense of fairness.

Lets face it, you can't have balance without a formula. You can't have balance with a business model that wants to shift whatever flavour of the week army is coming out every X months. And these aspects of Warhammer will never be changed.

I guess its all part of the excitement really isn't it, being part of the big tribe, desiring the next exciting release. Ah well, thats capitalism for ya Razz Some people seem to love it, thats their choice and I respect and understand it - I just think its quite a bad way to do things. Ones own creativity is far more satisfying.

AOA is the complete opposite in many respects and a totally different experience - I wonder if they are even comparable?
