Players of Arcana?

We sound like a bunch of high fantasy pimps. Wasn't there going to be a poll for this.

Not having a bash at anyone or nothing, but I'm *really* opposed to this name change! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I'm a player of Arcana and so is my wife.

Blessed are the cheesemakers... and the Arcana players.

Open to suggestions..........

The general feel is we should open the forum up to other games, especially as many don't play AoA now or not regularly at least. The url is the same, so far it is just the text at the top of the forum list that has changed.

The reference to Thanes Games is gone as it no longer exists.

Will gamers searching for an Armies of Arcana forum still be able to find this place?

The key words for search engines haven't changed and the content still have 1000's of references to AoA.

I'm not sure if its a forumup.com issue but this place nevers appears very high on the google hitlist for some reason though.

Players of Arcana - for all things wargame related

Could the blurb not be more AOA related?

To a passer by, Arcana could mean anything.

The idea is to move away from being just an AoA forum. We plan to keep all the AoA stuff just as it is because there is some really good stuff in there that will be helpful to new players getting into AoA.

But at the same time interest in AoA has decreased in the last couple of years.

Since Wozza joined on the 5 of November 2008 we have had 66 new members. 1 of those has posted more than a couple of times and 80% don't say anything at all.

Of all 175 members of this forum since Elvenblade and I set it up less the 40 of those members have posted more than 10 times and only 18 members have posted more the 100 times.

A lot of people are playing other games as well as AoA so we thought it might encourage people to post a bit more if they had something to actually talk about.

To be brutally honest, whilst people can discuss whatever they want and shouldn't be coerced into anything, there are plenty of places specifically primed toward discussing the games were discussing here. I don't expect or want to dictate what should or shouldn't be posted on a forum, the fact that this is now a 'general wargames' forum just comes as quite a shock to me, as opposed to an Armies of Arcana AND other wargames forum.

I think that just because there's been a decline in interest with AOA (inevitable really wasn't it) thats not to say it won't liven up again. Also, with the vast wealth of AOA related wisdom already on this site, the general wargames side is unlikely to ever surpass it?

Of coarse there is. That is probably where all the members here are posting. Wink

It is still is an Armies of Arcana forum. The only differance now is there is a new serperate section for other games. As I said above, the idea is to move away form being JUST an AoA forum and more of an AoA and other games forum.

I hope interest in AoA does pick up. Until then wouldn't it be nice to have some discussions about some of the other games that existing members here are playing? Surely some of those games will lead to new ideas for AoA? How can that be a bad thing? New ideas will lead to new interest.

There is also a dedicated AoA forum here:

yea, no dramas
i reckon it's a good thing to open it out more, apart from anything, gives us a chance to pontificate and rabbit socially with all our international gaming buddies without running out of things to say because some of us aint playing a.o.a much .
surely this is still the most useful site for any new a,oa player to visit, and obviously, theres still every opportunity for players to discuss and show off a.o.a games

so not only obs, but for anyone thats a bit worried, id say dont sweat it.
'sides, even if a.o.a hadnt had the rocky ride it has had, its healthy to avoid being what we at London gamers call a Monogamer... theres so much out there to play and collect and share and argue about Wink

Actually, I just realised that this does not indicate the forums lack of activity!

To see images and such, you have to sign up. Lurkers who want images of bat reps and links to file downloads, will sign up. Their lack of posting does not indicate lack of interest!

Anyway, enough of me being anal.
