HI All... New to the forum here, so figured I'd best step in and let everyone know who bought the miniatures line from Thane.

I'm James, I've been an on-line retailer for 8+ years now. You may have seen my store on ebay.

I'm located in the USA in south central Iowa. I've done international orders for over 7 years now. I'm a gamer by heart, but have zero people to play with here as usual. I always wanted to own my own gaming company and when Thane offered the minis for sale I just couldn't say no.

That said I am running it as a business not a hobby. There will be new lines added to the new company. I have already bought 5 new fantasy greens for the company, just need to find the money to have the molds made and produce the first run of figs.

The new company website is set up at

I am still trying to make a final decision as to who's web cart ot use for the site, so please bear with me. I am still accepting orders via e-mail.

I am dedicated to helping promote the AoA brand in the USA and I will be carrying the rules books stateside once I have the cart in place to do so.

There is a links page on the new site so if you have a dedicated AoA site that you want to be linked to I am more then happy to make link trades.

I'll stand by for your questions...

Cheers... Jim "napthyme"

Hi Nap

I was aware of your purchase from TMP. If you are intending expanding your lines I suggest you speak to Flay and battleforge. They are extremely good sculptors. I don't mean by amateur standards either, their work is better than most commercially available lines.

They both fell foul of the ineptitude of Terrain Warehouse and their dabblings in casting (long since resigned to the grave). I have seen their greens in the flesh(green) and they are good. Flay is active here but bf has been quiet recently. Look them up if you want some new stuff.

Flays hogmen are very cool. TW have over priced them and so the concept is still very fresh as a 'new' fantasy army.

I recently bought 5 15MM fantasy sculpts from a fellow TMPer in the UK, I can't imagine that anyone can do better then these. I even prefer his work to Sandra G's who did the other figs.

Here is a sample of one he did after buying a pack of 15MM and saying I can do better then that.

Until I can manage to build a network of convention sellers to handle a lot of the sales I'm not going to be able to afford to have much new product done really. Right now I am wondering where the money will come from to do the molds on these 5 figs.

well all I'll say about TW and casting is if you have never ran a minis comany before then you have no idea what problems/mountains are there to getting a product ready to launch. Thane's caster charged way to much for the mini's and that said Thane had them way over priced (and priced wrong for the industry)

I know this because I have consulted with people who have been in the industry as long as Steve jackson, and Gary Gygax for there professional guidance.

Since buying the line I've had to have the molds moved to another caster, refigure priced per figure from the new casting costs and repackage the minis so that they are more user friendly to those not interested in AoA.

All of this is for the health of the business and the future of the line...

I love the wolven. I picked up a batch of the great wolves that I use as regular wolves in my current 28mm wolf themed army. No one around here plays 15mm, or the other may be more tempting....heck, most of the time we use my miniatures for both sides anyway.

A lot of players down at the London Gamers club are starting to look at 15mm more for affordability. I love the look of the Dwarfs - its some of the best 15mm work i've seen.

thats a very cool dwarf...
im not a big fan of 15mm but can see thats quality.
good to see you are taking care of business, it is a very difficult business to get right i think. not that many companies can make it pay.
because i have little or no 'spare' cash, i find it difficult to get my minis cast and on sale

Well when it comes to casting you just have to take it in steps instead of doing it all in one go. If you have enough money to do the mold for the masters to make the production mold (if you don't have enough to fill a mold yourself most casters divide that cost among several people and share a mold.)

Once you have the masters ready to make the production molds then you can do those one at a time instead of making it a huge expense all at once.

Your lucky that you can sculpt your own minis so you do not have that added expense.

Nice one. I play 15mm and are always keen to support progress in AoA. An order for some of your monster figures will be on its way to you shortly

Got the models a few days ago, the Grifffins and Manticores look good, well proportioned and not too many bits and peices to stick on (which inevitably later fall off). They should paint up easily

The wolves are very good - I think that Wolfen line you have is excellent.

Cheers
Warren

Thanks Warren... I am glad you like them. That was one of the larget orders I have had since buying the line.

Maybe someday I can afford to add to them. I've got some new figs coming out now, so we will have to wait and see how well they sell and make plans accordingly for next year...

No problem, I expect I will be adding to the wolfen in dribs & drabs in the new year.

Cheers

How do Thanes wolfen compare in size to 28mm minis? I've always really liked how they look but just didn't feel like switching scales. I've been toying with the idea of using them as kobolds if they aren't too tiny. Just need a decent excuse to pick up some.

I've been meaning to get actual sizes of these posted to the site so that people can compare them to other companies figs.

The wolfen defintely suffer from scale creep, there 20MM from the base to the top of there heads. the Great wolf is on a 15 X 30MM base and stands 15MM high at the shoulder. So if you did some werejackels, or weredogs, or maybe even some werecoyotes I would think these would work fine against your 28MM stuff.

Let me know if you need me to be more specific about the size of a certain figure...
