Hey all,

I just PM'd a chap over on Warseer about AOA as an alternative to WHFB.

I linked him to the forum, yet I think it would be most captivating if we had something like this:

This has been mentioned before I think Confused . Showing AOA as an alternative and not as 'superior' to WHFB is definitely prudent. They are two different games after all - AOA will do nothing for someone who wants characters with customised magic weapons and such.

A phase-by-phase 'this is what's different' might be a good place to start
Then a simply explanation of stats and morale, etc.

Good idea, but if the word "warhammer" appeared in any official AOA comparison then GW's IP lawers would be down on it like a ton of arse bricks.

oh dear, yet another case or urban myth obliterating fact.

Peoples understanding of IP law is invariably wrong Rolling Eyes

Still it is probably about time someone went out there alienated a large group of players and turned them off AoA. Its been a while now.

LOL Laughing I'll leave the alienating up to somebody else.

Sad part is Shelfie's kind of right if you can believe what some people have said about things like the C&Ds to Boardgamegeeks and others. What GW says and the law aren't exactly the same. But without actually reading the C&Ds it's hard to know what GW really said. The forums generally removed them before I got a chance to read them if they were posted at all.

I'm over at Warseer a lot but I'm not good at doing the big sell for AoA. When you have one guy continually plugging his favourite game in every thread people start to ignore them.

Undoubtedly true old chap, sadly GW use this scare tactic a lot and many people crumble at the delivery of a "legal" letter without really checking.

and understandably so. Most don't have the knowledge time or money to fight it.

My point really was that you can pass comment on WH as part of a review and can quote facts about it without fear. Otherwise reviewers (of anything) would never be able to publish anything (and Which magazine wouldn't exist).

Seeing as there is nothing official about AoA anymore, we can all publish our views on WH (and AoA).

As Switzerland is neutral and a law unto itself - does this mean Shelfie can say what he likes about GW? Wink

If only... I live just inside the french border - that said there are no GWs in France and the French do have a strict "anti cult" law, as the evil Scientologists are discovering...

lawl, but the AT-43 guy got away with a comparison, and he was using GW miniatures in his PDF file.

I now feel that AOA and WHFB have nothing in common beyond the core, premise of being a ranked-fantasy battle game. Their two different things, designed for two different types of gamer.

So long as the alternative to WHFB isn't popularised, people who do want what AOA is, won't be able to get it, and will stick to WHFB.

All we can do is offer the knowledge that another game system alternative for all their models exists, after that it's up to those who want to give it a try.
